Music marketing company LRSMedia, in association with Samsung Electronics, Oct. 24 will street Legends of Jazz “Showcase” on next-generation optical-media format Blu-ray Disc for $34.98.
Showcase features performances by Al Jarreau, Chris Botti, David Sanborn, Chick Corea, Robert Cray and Dave Brubeck, among others, shot in high-definition Dolby 5.1 surround-sound and originally broadcast in April on PBS as part of the critically acclaimed eponymous series hosted by Grammy award-winning pianist and composer Ramsey Lewis.
The 13 live performances making their high-definition debut include “Take Five” by Al Jarreau and Kurt Elling; “My Funny Valentine” by Chris Botti; “The Panther” by Marcus Miller, George Duke, Lee Ritenour; “Señor Blues” by David Sanborn and Phil Woods; “Armando's Rhumba” by Chick Corea; “12 Year Old Boy” by Robert Cray and Keb' Mo'; “Killer Joe” by Benny Golson; “The Island” by Ivan Lins; “Mumbles” by Clark Terry; “They Can't Take That Away From Me” by Jane Monheit and John Pizzarelli; “Obsession” by Dave Valentin; “Take the ‘A' Train” by Dave Brubeck and Billy Taylor, and “Dear Lord” by Ramsey Lewis.
In the United States, Showcase will be included in the featured discs used in Samsung's retail accounts to show consumers the enhanced viewing and listening experience of Blu-ray. In Europe, consumers will receive a complimentary copy of Showcase on Blu-ray with the purchase of Samsung Blu-ray player.
Samsung currently markets the only Blu-ray player ($1,000 BD-P1000) available at retail in the United States.
