‘Fraggle' Rocks Complete-Season DVD

13 Jul, 2005 By: Brendan Howard

After dipping its toe in the water with three best-of DVDs, HIT Entertainment is releasing Fraggle Rock: Complete First Season (five-DVD set $44.99) Sept. 6 (prebook Aug. 9).

“We got an online petition with more than 35,000 signatures [to bring the show to DVD],” said Jamie Cygielman, HIT's SVP of consumer products for United States and Latin America. “Once we heard that, we released Where It All Began and Dance Your Cares Away in January, and Live by the Rule of the Rock in April. [They sold well, but] fans were really looking for the entire first season.”

The first-season set of the puppet-packed 1980s Jim Henson show will include 24 episodes, a behind-the-scenes documentary with the late Henson, a multi-page replica of Henson's original notepad with concepts for the show, and all-new interviews with former cast, creators and writers — some of whom are still working for Henson or HIT (Henson International Television) Entertainment.

“Our chief creative officer at HIT was one of the writers of the series,” Cygielman said.Tyson Craemer, founder of the fan Web site Fragglerocker.com that helped publicize the petition, is waiting for the “Fraggle” DVDs.

“I used to have most of the series on VHS, but I actually sold off all my videotapes to support the site,” Craemer said. “When the new titles came out, it was like a revival for me.”
