‘Broken' Boasts Scary Package

It's not often you see a company scare horror fans before they watch the DVD.

That's what Genius Products and The Weinstein Co. are hoping to accomplish with their Sept. 25 release of Broken, one of the first films released under the new Dimension Extreme label.

The o-ring packaging reveals a bloody, cut-open image of a woman's chest with a razor blade wedged inside. No “not for children” warning necessary.

The movie follows a woman and daughter kidnapped by a sadistic man, who tortures them in the woods. When the mother and daughter are separated, the man forces the mother to undergo a series of brutal, degrading acts to get her daughter back.

The DVD is coming in both rated and unrated versions and includes a director's commentary, an interview with actress Nadja Brand, a making-of featurette and a still gallery.

“We don't take the word 'extreme' lightly when it comes to the films released under the Dimension Extreme label, said Steve Wegner, VP of public relations, Genius Products. “We promised to provide edgy, over the top films that push the limits, and the Broken packaging, along with the film, delivers on that promise.”
