Lower-priced Next Gen Consoles Sell Well

11 Dec, 2008 By: Stephanie Prange

Facing hard economic times, consumers snapped up lower-priced next-generation game consoles in November. The Wii sold 2.04 million units for the month, compared to Xbox 360’s 836,000 and PlayStation 3’s 378,000, according to U.S. data from the NPD Group. Gears of War 2, for the 360, was the top-selling game for the month.

Gears of War 2 certainly didn’t disappoint, achieving a 13% attach rate to the Xbox 360 install base,” said NPD analyst Anita Frazier. “These are the types of platform exclusive games that are so important to the continued strength of any given platform.”
