'Little Man,' 'Basic Instinct 2' Lead Razzie Noms22 Jan, 2007 By: John Latchem
Nominations for the 27th annual Razzie Awards, celebrating the worst Hollywood has to offer, were announced Jan. 22. The good news for fans of bad movies is 24 of the 26 nominated films are on DVD.
Nominees for worst picture include Basic Instinct 2, from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment; BloodRayne, from Vivendi Visual; Lady in the Water, from Warner Home Video; Little Man, from Sony; and The Wicker Man, from Warner.
Basic Instinct 2 and Little Man tied with seven nominations apiece.
The Razzies also unveiled a new category: worst excuse for family entertainment. Nominees include Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties, from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment; RV, from Sony; Disney's The Shaggy Dog, from Buena Vista Home Entertainment; and the only two films on the list not yet on DVD — the Christmas releases The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, from Buena Vista, and Deck the Halls, from Fox.
Basic Instinct 2 also earned nominations for worst prequel or sequel, director and screenplay. Star Sharon Stone earned a nomination for worst actress, and a worst screen couple nomination went to “Sharon Stone's lopsided breasts.” David Thewlis earned a worst supporting actor nom for this film and for his work in Fox's The Omen.
Little Man stars Marlon and Shawn Wayans also earned a worst actor nomination, which they shared with Rob Scheider (also nominated for Sony's The Benchwarmers). A worst couple nom went to Shawn and either Kerry Washington or Marlon. Keenan Ivory Wayans was nominated for worst director and shared a worst screenplay nom with brothers Shawn and Marlon. Also, the film was named one of the worst remakes or ripoffs, with Razzie organizers citing its similarity to the 1954 Bugs Bunny cartoon “Baby Buggy Bunny.”
Other nominated films include Fox's Big Momma's House 2, Date Movie, John Tucker Must Die, Just My Luck and Material Girls; Sony's The Da Vinci Code, The Pink Panther, RV and Zoom; Lionsgate's Employee of the Month; Genius Products' Scary Movie 4; New Line's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning; Paramount's Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector; and Warner's Superman Returns.
