9 Apr, 2002 By: Hive News

Liquid Audio, Inc. today announced that it has finalized a non-exclusive agreement with Universal Music Group (UMG) to act as a digital music service provider. Liquid Audio will provide UMG with end-to-end, secure digital distribution services including encoding, hosting, clearinghouse and delivery.

As part of its ongoing strategy to distribute and market its music catalog online, UMG will take advantage of Liquid Audio's advanced technology to distribute digital music through a network of affiliates including record retailers.

UMG is the fourth major record label to use Liquid Audio's software and services to promote and sell digital music to consumers.

"Universal Music owns the most extensive catalog of music in the world,'' said Dick Wingate, SVP of Content Development and Label Relations at Liquid Audio. "By adding such a large variety of Universal content to our digital music catalog, we can offer a realistic alternative to file sharing and give consumers the selection they expect when experiencing music online."
