Lionsgate and actor/producer Tyler Perry have inked a new three-year deal for the latter's upcoming theatrical and home video releases.
Financial terms of the first-look agreement were not disclosed, but two senior development executives from Perry's production company will now be based in Lionsgate's Santa Monica, Calif.-based headquarters.
Perry, who shot to box office fame in 2005 following the release of Diary of a Mad Black Woman, will provide Lionsgate with three additional feature films as follow-ups to the mini-major's Sept. 12 release of The Family That Preys and Madea Goes to Jail, due Feb. 20, 2009.
Lionsgate said it has sold more than 25 million DVDs based on Perry's five theatrical releases and related plays.
Four of Perry's theatrical releases, Mad Black Woman, Madea's Family Reunion, Why Did I Get Married and Daddy's Little Girls opened No. 1 at the box office their opening weekends, according to Lionsgate.
Perry's films have generated nearly $250 million in cumulative box office revenue.
