Lions Gate to Release Fourth Barbie Title30 Apr, 2004 By: Angelique Flores
Mattel has granted the North American home entertainment rights to its Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper movie to Lions Gate Home Entertainment's Family Home Entertainment (FHE) division.
The full-length, direct-to-video film is expected to be released on DVD and VHS Sept. 28.
This will be the fourth Barbie feature film to be distributed by FHE, following the success of Barbie in the Nutcracker, Barbie as Rapunzel and Barbie of Swan Lake. The first three direct-to-video titles have sold an estimated 10 million units, according to Lions Gate.
In the computer-animated movie, Barbie presents her own take on the Mark Twain classic through a musical format. As the first three Barbie films taught girls lessons on self-empowerment, the latest movie conveys the positive messages of hope, self-discovery, the power of love and each person's individual gifts.
Coinciding with the release of the film, Mattel will launch a new Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper toy line featuring dolls of the characters.
