Lions Gate Lands Three-Year Distribution Deal With THINKFilm

20 Jul, 2005 By: Thomas K. Arnold

Lions Gate Home Entertainment has cut a three-year video distribution deal to place Toronto-based THINKFilm's theatrical releases into mass merchants throughout the United States.

THINKFilm will continue to distribute its titles to other direct accounts.

The first title in the deal is the Oscar-winning documentary Born Into Brothels, due Sept. 20. Later in the fourth quarter, Lions Gate will release the acclaimed documentary The Aristocrats and Murderball.

Lions Gate also will release a number of direct-to-video titles from THINKFilm to the entire U.S. home video market.

With the deal, Lions Gate — in the process of ramping up its library—will be presenting up to 30 theatrical films to the home video market each year.

“Partnering with a visionary company like THINKFilm gives us access to some of the highest-quality movies in the independent film world,” said Steve Beeks, president of Lions Gate Entertainment. “This deal reflects our continued commitment to the independent film marketplace.”
