Lion King DVD Debut Set for Oct. 7

As anticipated, Buena Vista Home Entertainment will release The Lion King on DVD as part of its Disney Platinum Edition Oct. 7. The two-disc set will be priced at $29.99.

According to Buena Vista, The Lion King double-disc set will include a new song “Morning Report” that was written for the stage play by Elton John and Tim Rice, and is sung by the character Zazu. The disc set includes the original theatrical version as well as an Imax film version that played in theaters last year. The DVD also includes a variety of featurettes, interviews with Elton John, Roy Disney and producer Don Hahn, games, and deleted scenes. The Lion King debuted on videocassette in 1995 and has sold more than 30 million units.

Buena Vista has also announced the Sept. 9 release on DVD of Sleeping Beauty, another double-disc set priced at $29.99. This set offers both widescreen and full screen versions of the film, along with a host of featurettes, games, interviews with Leonard Maltin, movie critic and historian, and other extras.
