Lightning Media Launches

6 May, 2008 By: John Latchem

Lightning Media has launched with the mandate to selectively target and acquire distribution rights to commercially driven films and programs for distribution. The company is a division of Lightning Entertainment Group, which also runs Lightning Home Entertainment and international sales company Lightning Entertainment.

Acquired content will be distributed theatrically, as well as through DVD, television, cable, on-demand and digital delivery platforms in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia. Lightning Media representatives will be on hand at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.

Lightning Media has secured a multiplatform distribution deal with Anchor Bay Entertainment, which will distribute up to 12 titles per year from Lightning Media over the next two years. The first titles include the mixed martial arts feature The Scorpion and the 2007 theatrically released comedy Tortilla Heaven, starring George Lopez.

Lightning Media is headed by veteran distribution and acquisitions executive Paul Gardner, who serves as co-president with Rich Goldberg.

Gardner previously served as president of Union Station Media — a joint venture between Arclight Films International and Alliance Films. Previously, he was an acquisitions executive for Artisan Entertainment and Lionsgate Entertainment.

Also joining Lightning Media in the position of VP of operations is Barbara Javitz, who worked in the independent film and home entertainment industries for more than 30 years, most recently as SVP of operations at Union Station Media.
