Latino DVD Confab Blooms in April

16 Feb, 2006 By: Angelique Flores

The Third Annual Latino DVD Conference is coming to West Hollywood April 11.

Home Media Retailing magazine, in cooperation with DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group and The Hollywood Reporter, presents Latino DVD 3 at the Wyndham Bel Age in West Hollywood, Calif.

U.S Latinos represent more than $700 billion in overall purchasing power, according to HispanTelligence, and this includes all facets of home entertainment. This figure is expected to reach $1 trillion by 2010.

“We recognize the importance of these consumers, and see the enormous effect it will have on the growth in Latino DVD,” said HMR publisher Don Rosenberg. “In addition to HMR's Cine Mercado section, Latino DVD 3 is yet another effort of ours to recognize the increasingly powerful Latino segment of the industry.”

A Latino DVD Research Supersession presented by Home Media Research will unveil proprietary research and Nielsen data. A series of executive panel sessions will discuss critical trends and issues, including niche product, consumer habits, marketing and merchandising. The event also will feature a product showcase luncheon with celebrity keynoter comedian Joey Medina, and the second annual Latino DVD Awards. Medina's has the upcoming DVD Latinopalooza from Image Entertainment.

The awards will honor Latino DVD releases that came to market in 2005, focusing on the DVD production. Categories are Best Childen's, Best Classic, Best Theatrical, Best Nontheatrical, Best Special Features/Bonus Material, Best U.S. Production and Best of Show.

More than 200 attendees are expected to attend, including top executives from major studios, key retailers and leading Latino entertainers, Rosenberg said.

The event is open to the trade only. Advance registration fees are $295 for DEG members and $345 for nonmembers. Hollywood Reporter subscribers also are entitled to the $295 discounted registration fee.
