Latest Oscar Winners Announced on Video

The serious and the comic meet in the latest announcements of 2002 Academy Award-Winning releases: The Pianist and The ChubbChubbs.

The Pianist -- which won Oscars for best director (Roman Polanski), best actor (Adrien Brody) and best adapted screenplay (Ronald Harwood from the memoirs of the real-life subject of the film, Wladyslaw Szpilman) -- will street May 27 (prebook April 29) on DVD ($26.98, $19.95 MAP) and rental-priced VHS from Universal Studios Home Video. Preorder is April 29. The DVD will include a new 40-minute documentary, A Story of Survival, about the production of the film and Polanski's own real-life survival during World War II.

The Oscar winner for best animated short film, The ChubbChubbs, will street April 11 (prebooking now) on DVD only at $9.95 from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment. The ChubbChubbs, which features an alien Glorf who dreams of hitting the stage at an intergalactic bar, is the first CG-animated short from Sony Pictures ImageWorks, the animation and visual effects arm of Sony Pictures Digital.
