LAPD Captain Arrested for Alleged DVD Piracy10 Dec, 2003 By: Hive News
A Los Angeles Police Department captain has been arrested on allegations that she sold pirated copies of hit movies on DVD to friends and acquaintances, according to published reports.
Julie D. Nelson, a 28-year LAPD veteran, was arrested as the result of a sting operation. Authorities said they recovered hundreds of copies of movies as recent as Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat from her home in La Palma and a friend's home in Torrance, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Nelson was booked on suspicion of possessing and selling counterfeit merchandise and for failing to disclose where the recordings came from — both felonies, according to the Times.
Nelson, 52, commanded the Harbor Division until early this year, when she was reassigned to patrol captain at the Hollywood Division.
