Lance Titles to Flow From Wellspring

3 Jul, 2002 By: Thomas K. Arnold

Wellspring Media has inked an exclusive distribution agreement with Lance Entertainment that will boost the prolific independent video supplier's sellthrough output by about 24 titles a year.

Wellspring will distribute all future Lance titles as well as select catalog product, beginning in the third quarter of this year.

Lance Entertainment is a two-year-old company that specializes in “literate” videos, from British mystery and suspense series to biographies of historical figures like Winston Churchill and John F. Kennedy.

Among the titles to be released on DVD for the first time are “The Maigret Collection,” with all 12 episodes in the Georges Simenon detective series, previously available only on VHS as a pair of six-cassette sets; A Taste for Death and The Black Tower, classic suspense from P.D. James; A Married Man, starring Anthony Hopkins; and the complete “Dick Francis: The Racing Game (Volumes 1 & II)” collection of six mysteries based on the novel Odds Against.

“In Wellspring's ongoing world-wide search for visual entertainment of the highest caliber, the Lance Entertainment library fits in perfectly with our already outstanding title roster,” said Dan Gurlitz, VP and general manager of home video for Wellspring Media.

“Merging the efforts of the two companies is a marriage of missions in that both firms strive to deliver top-quality, collectible literature on film to consumers and retailers alike.”

According to the DVD Release Report, Wellspring is one of the top 10 suppliers of DVD, with 407 releases, more than several major studios, including Paramount Home Entertainment.
