Lakers Bash Is USA's Last Hurrah18 Jul, 2002 By: Hive News
USA Home Entertainment president Joe Amodei is here at the show, talking up the supplier's last hurrah: the official world premiere party celebrating the release of the Official 2002 Los Angeles Lakers Championship Home Video.
The bash will be held July 22, a day before the video streets, at the Kodak Theatre in Westwood, Calif.
Guests include legendary sports announcer Chick Hearn and current and former Laker greats Rick Fox, Derek Fisher, Jamaal Wilkes and Chet Walker.
“We decided to go out with a bang,” Amodei said yesterday afternoon on the show floor, accompanied by veteran USA Home Entertainment publicist Lynne Hillman.
For the party, USA is teaming with Los Angeles radio station KLAC-AM and Sprint PCS.
Sprint stores will distribute 1,500 free passes to the event. Sprint also will send 10 winners from the theater to a special VIP event, to which they will be transported in a special Lakers/KLAC RV with the championship basketball team's players.
Sprint PCS also will give away 2,500 copies of the official DVD during a six- to eight-week period.
The Official 2002 Los Angeles Lakers Championship Home Video will be released on DVD and VHS day and date, at suggested retail prices of $14.95 for the videocassette and $19.95 for the disc.
The video takes fans inside the locker room and on the court for a behind-the-scenes look at the Lakers' third consecutive NBA championship.
Among the extras are exclusive interviews with key players and personnel, including Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant.
