Koch Signs Six Distribution Deals

12 Dec, 2006 By: Jessica Wolf

Koch Entertainment Distribution, the largest independent video distributor in the market, is still growing.

The company has signed six new distribution deals with the companies Somerville House Releasing, Sullivan Entertainment, SKD USA, Camp Motion Pictures, My Bedbugs and R&B Films. KOCH will be the exclusive video distributor for each label in North America with the exception of Sullivan Entertainment, where KOCH will service an extensive number of the label's retail accounts in the US.

The deals broaden Koch's reach into several genres, including foreign film, with SKD USA, which is a new company formed by the large European distributor Synkronized France, which was created specifically to license and release European films on DVD in the American market.

Somerville House Releasing is the home video division of Montreal-based Somerville House Securities, one of the oldest and most respected financiers of motions pictures and television programming. The label is currently involved in the packaging and distribution of DVDs of properties its parent company previously financed, including such critically acclaimed titles as Story of O, David Cronenberg's Rabid, Wedding in White, and most recently, Conduct Unbecoming and Blackout.

Within the next two to three years, Somerville House's entire film and television library will be put on DVD in the United States, Canada and select foreign countries, with certain rights to be granted to international distributors. Somerville House has resumed producing, and is developing several properties slated as feature films. Currently available is a special DVD edition of the holiday horror classic Black Christmas featuring Margot Kidder, with forthcoming titles for release in early 2007 to include George Burns In Concert, Super Fuzz (Super Snooper) starring Ernest Borgnine and Terence Hill, and Crimebuster starring Terence Hill and Bud Spencer.

Sullivan Entertainment brings a batch of well known and beloved family titles to the Koch fold with the "Anne of Green Gables" DVD series, among other titles.

“My Bedbugs” is a live action public television series for kids that airs in 37 American markets. First quarter 2007 will see the release of two DVDs, a CD project and a complete line of plush and educational toys based on the “My Bedbugs” characters.

Camp Motion Pictures holds a line of cult classic films from Bloody Earth Films and Secret Key Motion Pictures, including Camp Motion Pictures, and its labels will release a combination of these early videos ‘hits,' independent cult classics of various genres, and contemporary products both acquired and produced in-house by Camp's fully functional production company, which evoke this frenetic and prolific era of early video.

R&B Films adds a slate of titles in the music, animation, indie film and nonfiction entertainment categories. Titles currently available through KOCH include a special DVD edition of Ron Fricke's groundbreaking 1987 documentary film Chronos, which will also be released in the HD DVD and Blu-ray DVD formats in early 2007, and Ritual Path, a new age, special-interest DVD.
