The 'King' Going Blu at Wal-Mart9 Jul, 2008 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Garth Brooks is getting big company (Elvis Presley) as a recording artist exclusively distributed by Wal-Mart Stores Inc., including Sam's Club.
The Bentonville, Ark.-based retail behemoth Aug. 12 will street Elvis: Viva Las Vegas on DVD and Blu-ray Disc for $10 and $19, respectively.
Wal-Mart's distribution of Viva Las Vegas on Blu-ray marks another major step in the format's transformation to wider consumer adoption.
The two-hour special includes rarely seen footage of Presley performing in Las Vegas in the 1970s, his affect on Vegas and vice-versa, interviews with friends and associates, including 50 Cent, Beyonce, Brandi Carlile, Willie Nelson, Nancy Sinatra and Chris Isaak, among others, performing Presley songs.
Country Music Television Inc., which will broadcast Elvis: Viva Las Vegas Aug. 11, is holding a sweepstakes (CMT.com) through July 27 for an all-expense paid trip to Presley's Graceland home in Memphis, Tenn.
Ten runner-ups will receive Viva Las Vegas on standard DVD.
