Personal electronics maker SonicBlue Inc. has licensed its patented Dual-Deck technology to Victor Company of Japan, Ltd (JVC) to incorporate into certain JVC-branded combination products including a DVD/VCR combination, the companies announced today.
The grant represents SonicBlue's fourth major licensing agreement for the technology, following similar agreements with Thomson Multimedia, LG Electronics and Samsung Electronics.
"We have now successfully negotiated licensing agreements with several of the major consumer electronics companies participating in the combination video player market, and over the course of the year we expect to reach agreement with several more," said SonicBlue SVP and chief technology officer Andrew Wolfe. "As the market for these products expands, we stand to benefit from sales of our own Go-Video products, as well as from the sales of our licensees."
Specific terms of the licensing agreement with JVC are not being disclosed at this time.
Son icBlue holds key patents for the development of combination video products. The Company's DVD/VCR technology incorporates dual functionality, playing both DVDs and VHS tapes in one integrated system.
