Internet TV service Joost May 7 announced that Warner Bros. Television Group would begin offering select programming on two ad-supported branded channels, WBTV: SCI-FI FIX and WBTV: Before They Were Mega Stars.
SCI-FI FIX features shows such as “Adventures of Briscoe County,” “Aquaman,” “Babylon 5,” “Crusade,” “Human Target,” “Invasion,” “Max Headroom,” “My Favorite Martian,” “Prey,” “Time Trax” and “V.”
Before They Were Mega Stars features celebrities such as Brad Pitt, Kirsten Dunst, Samuel L. Jackson, Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson, who made guest appearances on TV shows such as “Growing Pains,” “Kung Fu,” “Sisters” and “Spenser: For Hire.”
Other segments include John Travolta in “Welcome Back, Kotter,” Marlon and Shawn Wayans in “The Wayans Bros.,” and Jamie Foxx, Martin Lawrence and Ben Stiller in their eponymous shows.
“We believe the ad-supported model for classic, current and original [TV] programming is a significant and critical segment of the long-term future of digital distribution,” said Bruce Rosenblum, president of WBTG.
In addition to broadcast quality programming, Joost features a variety of plug-in applications, such as instant messaging, message boards, and news tickers.
Earlier this month, Turner Broadcasting Systems Inc. said programming such as Adult Swim and CNN would join Sony Pictures Television, CBS Corp., Sports Illustrated, the National Hockey League and Hasbro, which previously announced separate distribution deals with Joost.
