Jerry Lewis Keynotes, Vin Diesel Leads All-Star Cast at VSDA

Jerry Lewis will deliver the keynote address July 26 at this year's Home Entertainment 2005 at the Bellagio Resort in Las Vegas. The show is presented by the Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA).

“It's a tremendous privilege to have one of the world's great talents speak at our industry event,” said VSDA president Bo Andersen. “His timeless comedies have entertained movie lovers for generations. With the recent release of 10 of these films on DVD, they are being discovered by new generations and rediscovered by millions more.”

The VSDA also is recognizing the talents of Vin Diesel, Patrick Swayze and director Penelope Spheeris, who will be on hand July 27 to receive honors at the VSDA's annual Awards Show, this year emceed by comedian Richard Lewis. Diesel (The Pacifier, The Chronicles of Riddick, xXx, The Fast and the Furious) is being honored as Male Star of the Year; Swayze (One Last Dance, Dirty Dancing, Ghost, The Outsiders), with an Independent Career Achievement Award; and Spheeris with the new Groundbreaker Award for her early work in music videos, the rockumentary The Decline of the Western World, mainstream comedies such as Wayne's World and Black Sheep, and other projects.

Besides recognizing the talents of these stars, the VSDA also will hand out awards to the best home video retailers for the past year, as well as highlight the best in home video during the annual event, which runs July 26–29.

Convention attendees will be busy during the event attending more than a dozen conference seminars, touring an expo hall and visiting with suppliers in meeting suites on dedicated floors of the hotel. Event planners have scheduled a constant stream of evening parties and other networking events during the convention.

Home Entertainment 2005 is product by Home Entertainment Events, a joint venture between the VSDA and Questex Media, which publishes Home Media Retailing. Organizers are making plans now for a celebration when the show reaches its 25th anniversary in 2006.
