iTunes Grows With Fox Lineup, Sports Offerings10 May, 2006 By: Jessica Wolf
The growing download cache at iTunes expanded this week with the addition of a slate of shows from the Fox television network. Fox had been the only major network to this point that had yet to offer content for Apple's download site.
Available shows include “24” “Prison Break,” “Unanimous” and “Stacked.” A special segment titled “Fox Television Classics” features episodes and the first seasons of cult favorites “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Lost in Space,” as well as all of the episodes for the short-lived “Firefly.”
All episodes are $1.99 each.
Also new on iTunes are NBA playoff games, starting with the second round of match-ups, which kicked off this week. The NBA segment of iTunes is organized by franchise, allowing users to “follow their team.” Viewers may purchase individual games for $1.99 each or purchase a season pass for $8.99. The season pass option entitles users to all postseason games.
Other iTunes NBA offerings include the TNT show “Inside the NBA,” which features playoff commentary from Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley, with exclusive off-camera footage not available anywhere else.
The remainder of the playoffs and the NBA finals will be available on iTunes. The same content, as well as the first round of the basketball playoffs, also are available on Google Video for $3.95 per game.
The iTunes store also has a new installment of “Showtime Championship Boxing,” with the Corrales vs. Castillo match-up that already includes three fights — one available now, more coming throughout the summer.
Other iTunes additions include the canceled NBC show “Law & Order: Trial by Jury.”
On the site, users can exclusively purchase the unaired 13th episode of the drama for the usual $1.99, or grab the whole slate of episodes for $25.87.
