It's a Ringer!15 Jun, 2005 By: John Latchem
Fans of “The Ring” horror-film franchise are in for a treat this fall, as DreamWorks Home Entertainment is readying not just The Ring Two for DVD, but also the original Japanese films on which the series is based.
The Ring Two, which grossed $76.1 million at the domestic box office, stars Naomi Watts as a reporter trying to protect her son from the evil force that haunted her in the original 2002 movie.
The Hideo Nakata-directed film hits DVD and VHS Aug. 23 (prebook July 12) in both rated and unrated editions for $19.95. Special features include a number of featurettes and the short film Rings, which connects the story of the sequel to the original film.
The unrated edition includes 10 minutes of footage added back into the film and an additional 18 minutes of exclusive deleted scenes.
Nakata also directed the Japanese film Ringu, on which the American franchise is based, and Ringu 2, which also hits shelves Aug. 23 for $19.95. Ringu 2 will join Ringu, its sequel Rasen and its prequel, Ringu 0, in Ringu Anthology of Terror, a $34.99 boxed set.
