The wait is almost over for Shrek fans, as Shrek 2 hits theaters May 21. Meanwhile, DreamWorks Home Entertainment has a little something on DVD to tide Shrek-lovers over until the ogre hits the big screen once again.
Streeting May 11 (prebook March 30) is Shrek 3-D, a DVD two-pack that includes the original Shrek movie and an all-new adventure following the fearless green hero as he attempts a daring rescue of his new wife Princess Fiona. All the cast members are back for the new 3-D animated adventure: Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and John Lithgow.
The DVD set, priced at $16.95, also includes four pairs of 3-D glasses and boasts collectible lenticular packaging and will come with an instantly redeemable coupon for a free package of Skittles.
DreamWorks will piggyback marketing efforts for Shrek 3-D as Shrek 2 theatrical fever begins with a nationwide print ad campaign for the new DVD title as well as radio promotions and in-store display materials.
The original Shrek film earned $268 million in theaters and $55.8 million in rental revenue, according to Video Store Magazine Market Research. It was the top-selling DVD of 2001, according to VideoScan.
