Insurgent 'Insurgent' Sweeps Home Video Charts for Second Week

Lionsgate's 'Insurgent' continued to exert its popularity on the home entertainment market the week ended Aug. 16, topping the national home video sales and rental charts for a second consecutive time.

Parks: Roku Still No. 1 Streaming Media Device

Parks Associates reports that Roku leads all streaming media device sales in the U.S. with 34% of units sold in 2014. Google Chromecast is second with 23%, and new entrant Amazon Fire TV surpassed Apple TV for third. The four media devices accounted for 86% of all units sold to U.S. broadband households in 2014. Parks estimates that 86 million streaming media devices will be sold globally in 2019.

Trans World Entertainment Narrows Q2 Loss

Trans World Entertainment Corp. Aug. 20 reported a second-quarter (ended Aug. 1) net loss of $3 million, down $2.1 million from a loss off $5.1 million during the prior-year period. Revenue decreased 6.2% to $67.5 million, compared with $71.9 million a year ago. At the end of the quarter, TWE operated 308 stores, compared with 327 stores at the same time a year ago, a 5.8% decline.

Amazon Prime Gets New 'Walking Dead' Companion Series

In a major move, Amazon has secured exclusive streaming rights in Germany and Austria to “Fear the Walking Dead,” the new companion series to cult hit “The Walking Dead,” which debuts Aug. 23 in the U.S. on AMC Networks.
