<I>Nemo</I> Sales, Rentable Titles Due in November

While the Buena Vista Home Entertainment/Pixar hit Finding Nemo should please the sellthrough channel, November also looks pretty good to rentailers this year.

“I think this year's slate is far stronger from a rentability point of view,” said Tom Hannah, owner of Video Quest in Joliet, Ill.

Mike Frese, of Movie Tymes in Lake of the Ozarks, Mo., agrees. He noted the heavy sellthrough bent of last year's slate, which included Ice Age and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. He said last year's Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood fell victim to the traditional rental shortfall for “chick flicks.”

Sinbad will be a good rental,” he said.Both Hannah and Frese are concerned the title pipeline will dry up in January.

“My only concern is that November and December might be too heavy, leaving [slim] pickings for January,” Frese said. “But it seems we think that every year.”
