12 Aug, 2008 By: Thomas K. Arnold

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull will be the first new theatrical feature from Lucasfilm and Steven Spielberg to be released on Blu-ray Disc, according to Paramount Home Entertainment.

The studio will release the adventure sequel, which has grossed more than $770 million worldwide, Oct 14 in a single-DVD version ($29.99), a two-DVD version ($39.99) and on Blu-ray Disc ($39.99). Also coming out that day on DVD only is Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventure Collection, which includes all four Indy films for $89.99.

The two-disc DVD and Blu-ray special editions will include several hours of bonus materials. Among them: “The Return of a Legend,” a documentary about the making of the film; a six-part production diary; several galleries, production stills and behind-the-scenes photos; three pre-visualization sequences; a pre-production visit with Spielberg and other cast and crew members as they prepare for the film; and six featurettes on the warrior makeup, the crystal skulls, the cultural impact of the Indiana Jones character, the film's props, the creative team behind the film and the post-production process.

The Blu-ray version also includes a series of three interactive timelines — on the story, the production and the real-world historical influences referenced in the film — that include video featurettes, in-depth information and unique imagery.
