'Indiana Jones' and 'Rings' Top Home Entertainment Award Nominations25 May, 2004 By: Erik Gruenwedel
With four nominations apiece — including major studio rental, sellthrough, marketing and special editions of the year — Paramount Home Entertainment's The Adventures of Indiana Jones boxed set and New Line Home Entertainment's The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers have emerged as 2004 Home Entertainment Award front-runners.
Jones also received a nomination for major studio archival release.
Buena Vista Home Entertainment's Finding Nemo, Artisan Home Entertainment's T2 — Extreme DVD, Lions Gate Home Entertainment's Barbie of Swan Lake, and Activision's Tony Hawk's Underground video game each received three nominations.
Winners in 26 categories from 126 nominations, based on voting by VSDA regular members, will be announced at the VSDA Home Entertainment 2004, July 14-16, at the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas.
Categories and nominations increased 24 percent and 20 percent, respectively, from last year, due to the addition of five categories: best documentary title, music DVD, TV series, TV mini-series, archival TV series and mini-series on DVD.
“More people view movies on DVD and VHS than in the theaters, on pay-per-view cable and satellite television, and video-on-demand,” said Bo Andersen, president of the VSDA. “These awards recognize excellence in entertainment the way most people enjoy it — on home video.”
