Master And Commander: The Far Side Of The World sails into stores April 20 in single and double-disc DVD editions and rental-priced VHS from Fox Home Entertainment. The $90 million box office hit docks in a double-disc collector's gift pack filled to the gunnels with behind-the-scenes bonus features and a 28-page collectible booklet and maps that follow the adventures of Captain “Lucky” Jack Aubrey.
The film stars Russell Crowe as Aubrey, a British frigate commander engaged in a spectacular high seas chase with a heavily armed French warship. It scored 10 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director (Peter Weir), Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing.
The collector's giftpack, priced at $39.98, includes six deleted scenes, four multi-angle battle scene studies, an hour long making-of documentary, three new featurettes, an interactive sound recording demo, the HBO First Look Special, theatrical trailers, a still gallery, and the booklet and maps. Fox will also release the title in a single-disc widescreen or pan-and-scan DVD priced at $29.98.
Prebook is March 17 for all formats.
The studio will support the release with a multi-million dollar media blitz spanning national television, print, radio and online, in addition to a robust publicity effort. Grassroots marketing efforts will include radio promotions in the top 40 markets and in the military markets.
