Animation studio Imagi Studios opened up its latest feature-length film, Gatchaman, to licensing partners during the Licensing International Expo, June 1-4 in Las Vegas. The movie also will see a 3-D release in theaters some time in 2011.

Imagi already has enjoyed licensing success for its Astro Boy film, with American Greetings and Kellogg’s among the companies to sign deals for the film, which Summit Entertainment will release in theaters Oct. 23.

“We are pleased to bring another strong property in the form of a Gatchaman movie to the licensing community,” said Erin Corbett, president of Imagi Studios America and chief marketing officer worldwide. “Over the past 20 years the ‘Gatchaman’ property has demonstrated a proven track record for licensees, and we are confident that our new feature film will add another chapter and opportunity for our partners.”

Rhino released the edited “Battle of the Planets” on DVD starting in 2001, with ADV Films releasing the original “Gatchaman” series in its entirety starting in 2005.
