Image Entertainment and Starbucks Coffee June 27 will co-release an exclusive deluxe edition DVD/CD of Chuck Berry Hail! Hail! Rock ‘n' Roll, the 1987 feature-length documentary from Academy Award-nominated director Taylor Hackford (Ray).
The $19.95 first-time DVD/CD set features more than 40 minutes of previously unreleased bonus footage and is paired with a 14-song CD compilation of Chuck Berry hits from the 1950s and '60s, produced by Starbucks Hear Music, the music development arm of Starbucks.
Image June 27 will street special re-mastered two- and four-disc Hail! DVD-only sets for $29.99 and $49.99, respectively.
The DVD/CD set will be available only at more than 9,000 Starbucks locations in the U.S. and on the Internet at www.starbucks.com/hearmusic.
Chatsworth, Calif.-based Image in January acquired the North America DVD rights to the Berry film, which documents a concert gathering of notable musicians for Berry's 60th birthday, including Eric Clapton, Etta James, Linda Rondstadt, Robert Cray and Julian Lennon. Other interviews include Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Roy Orbison and Bo Diddley.
In addition, music industry veteran Alan Mintz was named to head Starbucks Entertainment, which is relocating operations to Santa Monica, Calif. from Seattle.
