Image Inks Sony DADC for Blu-ray Releases18 Mar, 2008 By: Erik Gruenwedel
For next month's Blu-ray release slate, Image Entertainment Inc. said it has entered into a replication deal with Sony DADC in Terre Haute, Ind.
Chatsworth, Calif.-based Image, which has a disc-replication deal with German-based Arvato (formerly Sonopress), sought out the Sony replication company due to its ability to author and compress content for Blu-ray, according to COO David Borshell.
“Arvato is not set up to do that work yet,” Borshell said.
Last spring, Image inked an extensive five-year replication/distribution deal with Arvato that included a $10 million advance. That deal helped facilitate the closure of Image's Las Vegas distribution center, among other cost-savings initiatives.
Sony DADC worked on Image's initial Blu-ray titles released earlier this year: Suburban Girl and Australian war film Breaker Morant.
Future productions include Sidney Lumet's Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, out April 15, and The Air I Breathe May 6, starring Forest Whitaker, Brendan Fraser, Andy Garcia and Emile Hirsch.
