Image Does Urban With One Village Entertainment20 Sep, 2007 By: Billy Gil
Image Entertainment has launched an urban division called One Village Entertainment, set to include theatrical, broadcast, DVD and digital distribution. Brett Dismuke will helm the label, joining Image as VP of urban programming.
In conjunction with the new line, Image has announced the signing of a multipicture production and worldwide distribution agreement for documentaries and feature films with Rugged Entertainment, a production unit formed by Peter Spirer, an Academy Award-nominated director (for the 1994 documentary short Blood Ties: The Life and Work of Sally Mann). Spirer has directed several Image releases, including Notorious BIG: Bigger Than Life, and, through Image's distribution agreement with QD3 Entertainment, Thug Angel: Life of Tupac Shakur and the “Beef” series.
The agreement calls for Rugged releases to be distributed solely through Image. The first documentary from the agreement is scheduled for a mid-2008 release.
Image also has acquired several films to be released under One Village, including Love and other 4 Letter Words (with “Saturday Night Live” alum Flex Alexander), Two Turntables and a Mic (a music documentary on Jam Master Jay) and Life Is Not a Fairy Tale (starring “American Idol” Fantasia Barrino in her own life story).
