Trapped in the Disney vault for 10 years, Cinderella is finally ready for the big dance. Buena Vista Home Entertainment will release a DVD “Platinum Edition” of its timeless animated classic Oct. 4 (prebook Aug. 9) for $29.99. A new VHS version will be available for the same price.
Disney's 12th feature, first released in 1950, Cinderella is the classic fairy tale of a young girl rising from rags to riches despite the odds stacked against her.
Typical of a Disney Platinum release, the two-DVD set is jammed with deleted scenes, new featurettes about the making of the film, tributes to the artists, demo recordings of unused songs, music videos, games, a DVD-ROM design studio, trailers and radio spots. The set also includes the special “ESPN Classics' ‘Cinderella Stories,’ detailing some of the most improbable moments in sports history. The original soundtrack also has been upgraded to 5.1 sound.
Disney also will have available a DVD Collector's Gift Set, containing a booklet, movie still and sketches, for $49.99.
