IDEA Offers Extreme Makeover

21 Apr, 2006 By: Jessica Wolf

The Independent Dealers of Entertainment Association (iDEA) is launching its own version of “Extreme Makeover.”

The indie-retailer arm of the Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA) is looking for a store to be the showcased for iDEA's “Amazing Transformation” program.

The chosen independent retailer will get expert consultation, supplies and support in a redesign and store- revitalization effort. The transformation will begin with brainstorming on possible changes to the store at iDEA's indieFEST '06 in Las Vegas at the July convention, and the finished product will be presented at iDEA's 2006 National Chapter Event.

"A lot of times conferences produce great concepts, but it is not clear how to implement those concepts in the real world. 'Amazing Transformations' is a real-life case study that will allow us to see our ideas take shape through the participating store,” said Jim Loperfido, iDEA board chair.

Applications are now being accepted from retailers who would like their store to be chosen for the "Amazing Transformation."

The selected retailer will work with fellow retailers and industry consultant John Farr at indieFEST and beyond to gather new ideas for marketing, merchandising, store operations, staffing, appearance, inventory management, and more to begin the transformation on their store.

The store also will receive product from sponsoring companies to help the transformation along.

The progress of the retailer's "Amazing Transformation" will be reported regularly. Also, the winning retailer will present their final results at iDEA's 2006 National Chapter Event, to be held in the fall.
