21 May, 2004 By: Brendan Howard

Universal Studios Home Video is banking on Vin Diesel's box-office muscle to not only heft the upcoming theatrical prequel The Chronicles of Riddick in theaters June 11, but a direct-to-video animated title and a new extras-packed DVD edition of Pitch Black, which started the “Riddick” franchise in theaters in 2000.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury, animated by “Aeon Flux” creator Peter Chung, will street June 15 at $14.98 on DVD only. It will bridge events between Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick.

June 1 will bring a new DVD edition of Pitch Black at $26.98, which will sport the unrated director's cut and commentaries from the first DVD release as well as new fictional content in the way of diary entries and an encyclopedia.

Adding to its appeal, Pitch Black will also include a ticket for the upcoming theatrical release and a sneak-peek featurette of the June 1 Xbox-exclusive video game The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay, which includes a prison break only partially covered in the new theatrical release.
