Home Video Revenues Slip in Italy

12 Jul, 2002 By: Jessica Wolf

Italy's home video market suffered a 1.3 percent drop in revenue in 2001, even though DVD sales increased by 60 percent and overall unit sales of both formats were up 4 percent.
A recent report from video trade organization Univideo attributed the overall dip to slow DVD hardware adoption and an 18 percent drop in the price of VHS cassettes.

The Univideo report noted that even though hardware penetration is only 4 percent, DVD sales made up 28 percent of the country's sellthrough market in 2001 and accounted for 21 percent of Italy's overall home video market last year.
