'HM' Publisher Arnold to Moderate EMA Confab's Opening Panel

21 May, 2008 By: Billy Gil

Home Media Magazine publisher and editorial director Thomas K. Arnold will moderate the opening session of the Entertainment Merchants Association's (EMA) Home Media Expo 2008, featuring prominent home entertainment players discussing the future of Blu-ray Disc. The session will take place June 24 from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

“Blu-ray Disc is the future of our business, so it's only fitting that the opening session of this year's Home Media Expo is turning the spotlight on this exciting new format,” Arnold said.

“Moving Forward and Building Growth” will feature Mike Dunn, president of 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment; James W. Keyes, chairman and CEO of Blockbuster Inc.; James L. McQuivey, VP, principal analyst with Forrester Research Inc.; and Eisuke Tsuyuzaki, VP, corporate development and general manager, Blu-ray Disc Group, Panasonic Corp. of North America. The panel will explore how to educate consumers on the superior technology of Blu-ray.

“The miracle disc, DVD, has absolutely dominated all other forms of home entertainment for the past decade, generates $23 billion in sales and rentals annually and is, by far, the most popular way for Americans to watch the latest hit movies,” said Bo Andersen, president of the EMA. “Currently, the home entertainment industry is undertaking a progression from standard DVD to Blu-ray Discs.

“Blu-ray is the superior format for home entertainment — perfectly suited for the wave of high-definition TVs consumers are buying. Blu-ray Discs present tremendous growth opportunities for the industry, yet some pundits theorize roadblocks exist to widespread consumer adoption. This distinguished panel will provide studio, retailer and analyst perspectives on how Blu-ray Discs can and will impact the future of the home entertainment industry.”
