High Court Allows Minimum Price28 Jun, 2007 By: Stephanie Prange
The Supreme Court last week ruled that manufacturers may set minimum prices at retail, according to the Associated Press.
Dissenting justices said the ruling could lead to higher prices at retail.
Justice Anthony Kennedy said minimum prices could benefit consumers by letting retailers invest in better service.
Justice David Souter, during oral arguments, noted that the success of discounters like Wal-mart and Target may, in part, be due to the lack of minimum price agreements.
