HDMI Wins Special Emmy

7 Jan, 2009 By: Chris Tribbey

The HDMI Licensing group, which is responsible for the High-Definition Multimedia Interface used on consumer electronics, was presented with a Technology & Engineering Emmy Jan. 7 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

“We congratulate the HDMI technology founders and partners who have been honored with this prestigious award,” said Steve Venuti, president of HDMI Licensing, LLC. “It’s been six short years since the HDMI specification was launched, and in that time, over 850 companies have licensed the technology and over 620 million HDMI-enabled products have shipped.

“These numbers clearly show how big an impact the HDMI specification has had on the market. This is a well-deserved award for these companies.”

Hitachi, Panasonic, Philips, Silicon Image, Sony, Thomson, Toshiba, Intel, Japan Aviation Electronics, and Molex Incorporated were honored with the award.

Separately, HDMI Licensing announced Jan. 7 that it will address a number of electronics trends with its updated HDMI specification in 2009, including high-def in vehicles, 3-D and Ethernet.
