HDMI Cuts Licensing Fee 33%

26 Jul, 2006 By: Erik Gruenwedel

HDMI Licensing, the high-definition multimedia interface that combines high-def video and multi-channel audio into a single cable for HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc players, is cutting its annual administration fee to consumer electronics manufacturers from $15,000 to $10,000.

The move is an apparent strategic decision by HDMI to entice the China Video Industry Assoc., which announced it would promote and support the use of HDMI in the country's burgeoning CE industry.

Hitachi, Panasonic, Philips, Sony, Thomson, Toshiba and Silicon Image developed HDMI as the digital interface standard for the CE market.
