HBO plans to test a new video-on-demand service next month that will allow customers to order in episodes of "The Sopranos," "Sex and the City" and other HBO programming.

Current HBO subscribers will be able to access the service on a special cable channel set up to take their orders, similar to pay-per-view.

About 150 hours of programming, including HBO original series and theatrical movies, will beavailable with the service.

The system will be tested next month in Columbia, S.C. Two other tests will be conducted subsequently, with HBO's parent company AOL Time Warner Inc. testing pricing as well, AOL-TW c.e.o. Gerald Levin has said.

A monthly fee for the service will be added onto the HBO subscription price.
