HBO Getting New 'Sesame Street' Episodes First

The battle for children’s eyeballs took a major financial turn Aug. 13 when Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind venerable series “Sesame Street,” and HBO announced an exclusive pact that will make the next five seasons of the Emmy Award-winning show available first on HBO, HBO Go, HBO On Demand and SVOD service HBO Now.

SNL Kagan: Pay-TV Industry Shed 650,000 Subs in Q2

SNL Kagan estimates U.S. cable, satellite and telecom operators collectively lost about 650,000 video subscribers in the three months ended June 30, falling to 100.4 million combined residential and commercial subs at mid-year.

Time Warner CFO Howard Averill Time Warner CFO Takes Kid Gloves to Netflix

Time Warner CFO Howard Averill was asked if Netflix has become too big, wielding excessive influence across the content licensing landscape. Speaking Aug. 13 at Nomura’s 2015 Media & Telecom Conference in New York, Averill — without citing Netflix by name — agreed the syndication market isn’t helped by the overbearing presence of one major buyer (i.e. Netflix).
