Harry Potter to Hit U.K. in Two DVD Versions

4 Apr, 2002 By: Jessica Wolf

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone will hit video in the United Kingdom in two separate DVD versions: a special edition double-disc with all the extras, intended for sellthrough retailers and priced at about $25; and a vanilla disc with the widescreen theatrical version of the film, priced at about $22, tailored for rental dealers.

Warner Home Video last week announced its dual-DVD release strategy for the U.K. release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (released in the United Kingdom as Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone), which will street May 11, more than two weeks before its U.S. street date of May 28.

The VHS also will be priced for sellthrough in England. Harry Potter was filmed almost entirely in the country and featured a cast of all British actors. The next film installment of the bestselling book series, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, hits theaters Nov. 15. The first movie had a worldwide theatrical release date of Nov. 16, 2001.
