A group of 17 entertainment, computer and mobile technology companies has formed the nonprofit Digital Home Working Group to create an open-standards-based platform to link home entertainment products throughout a home.
Devices targeted for interoperability are PCs, TVs, set-top receivers and players, printers, stereos, digital projectors, and mobile phones. The group will use established design standards to set criteria for interoperability.
Founding members in the group are Fujitsu, Gateway, HP, Intel, IBM, Kenwood, Lenovo, Matsushita Electric (Panasonic), Microsoft, NEC CustomTechnica, Nokia, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, STMicroelectronics and Thomson.
