'Halo 3' Debuts on Xbox Live

Microsoft Game Studios and game developer Bungie Studios will debut the multiplayer beta version of Halo 3 on Xbox Live May 16. Gamers who secured admission to the multiplayer beta through various promotions will have the opportunity to download the beta to try out the highly anticipated game from 5 a.m. PDT May 16 through 11:59 PDT June 6.

The download requires gamers to have access to an Xbox Live gold membership and an Xbox 360 console equipped with a hard drive. Gamers interested in playing the beta version can sign up through a key in the Xbox 360 Crackdown game.

Prior to the online debut, a preview of the game will be available at bungie.net, and in high-definition on Xbox Live.Halo 3 lets gamers experience Master Chief's greatest battle as he launches an epic mission to stop the Covenant, destroy the impending Flood threat and ultimately save mankind.

The console version of the game launches this fall exclusively for Xbox 360.

Xbox Live serves more than 6 million gamers worldwide. Halo 2 is the No. 1 title on Xbox Live, with more than 800 million hours of logged playing time, according to Shane Kim, corporate VP of Microsoft Game Studios.
