Grouper Plays Seinfeld20 Nov, 2006 By: Erik Gruenwedel
User-generated video sharing site Grouper Nov. 21 will stream select scenes, trailers and bonus material from the same-day release of Seinfeld: Season 7 DVD from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
The four-disc box set ($49.95) features 24 episodes, including extensive bonus material, two animated “Sein-Imation” features, with Seinfeld scenes re-imagined with original cast voices.
Sony Pictures Entertainment in August acquired Grouper for $65 million.
Grouper will initially offer 15 clips from the show, along with commentaries on select episodes, bloopers, and the DVD trailer.
For example, users can view segments from The Soup Nazi (Larry Thomas), including “What's Cooking” and “Where are They Now?” where the Soup Nazi discusses his professional career since the end of the series.
Grouper will soon offer select clips from seasons 1 through 6, and a click-to-buy option that directly links consumers to Amazon.com for all available Seinfeld DVDs.
“The Seinfeld promotion gives Sony the opportunity to reach out to both longtime Seinfeld fans and engage new viewers with new material that supports the television show in syndication, the latest DVD release and the iconic Seinfeld brand,” said Robert Oswaks, EVP, marketing, Sony Pictures Television.
The popular NBC sitcom, which aired for nine seasons from 1990 to 1998, starred Jerry Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander and Michael Richards, among others.
