GoodTimes Will Bring Hit Broadway Musicals to Home Video27 Jun, 2001 By: Seth Goldstein
GoodTimes Entertainment and Broadway Television Network, both in New York, have struck a five-year deal that will let GoodTimes distribute Broadway musicals on VHS and DVD.
Originally seen on pay-per-view, the 2001 releases are Jekyll and Hyde and Smokey Joe’s Cafe — The Songs of Lieber and Stoller. Early next year GoodTimes will ship a Stephen Sondheim revue, Putting It Together.
GoodTimes president Bill Sondheim predicts sales of the three will total more than 1 million units, split about equally between $24.95 tape and $29.95 disc.
Year-old Broadway Television has a five-show catalog, all taped during live performances. The company is negotiating rights for others, including Tony Awards darling The Producers.
Video is the “driving force of its economic model,”says Sondheim.
