Gold Leaves StudioWorks for Ultimate Fighting

29 Jul, 2005 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Veteran entertainment executive Don Gold is leaving Ventura Distribution unit StudioWorks Entertainment to become EVP of Entertainment with Zuffa, LLC, owner of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) mixed martial arts brand.

Gold, who co-founded StudioWorks, a distributor of teen-related fare, in 2002, follows Jeff Clanagan, founder and president of Ventura's UrbanWorks division, who left in June for Universal Music Group.

Over the past several years, UFC DVDs have been ranked the No. 1 sports brand on DVD. In his new position, Gold will extend the brand into news territories, including overseas.

“I've had a history working on the UFC brand for 12 years, and it has never been hotter,” said Gold, who also will be creating unspecified new content not related to mixed martial arts.
