The acquisitions department at Genius Products remains busy with the June 1 announcement that the Solana Beach, Calif.-based company would distribute up to six live-action films on DVD annually from Seven Arts Pictures.

Initial releases include Deal, starring Burt Reynolds as an ex-gambler who finds himself in the World Series of Poker facing a hotshot college prot?g?. The film also features Shannon Elizabeth (American Pie), Jennifer Tilly, Brett Harrison (Orange County) and Charles Durning (Desperation).

Anthony Waller (An American Werewolf in Paris) directed the second release, Nine Miles Down.

Genius, which is 70% owned in an interim agreement by Miramax co-founders Bob and Harvey Weinstein, last month signed distribution deals with Toronto-based Peach Arch Entertainment Group's Archetype Films, in addition to a five-year agreement with filmmaker Dan Grodnik's Grodfilm Corp.
